Overview

The Program on Science, Technology and Development (PROCIENTEC) engages in theoretical and applied research on scientific development and technological change. The most important focus is the study of the determinants and impacts of technological change on the economy, society and the environment.

While many people in the North flee to the Caribbean to escape the cold of winter, they may not realize they are engaging in international trade. This paper examines the role played by trade and liberalization in tourism services in fostering or constraining sustainable development. In short, it explores the question: what are the opportunities and barriers to achieving sustainable development through trade in tourism-services?
